He saw her. Walking through the town, dressed as always in her black leather, rapier at her side. White hair tumbled down her back, held off her face by a black headband. He saw her talk to townspeople, gathering information. He saw her stepping into the tavern, to get a drink, or maybe lunch. He saw her, and he waited, sometimes simply watching, sometimes with arrow knocked, aimed, ready.

He saw her, but he never fired.

She didn't see him, not out in the woods, where he seemed to blend into nature, to became part of the very forest. She didn't see him, not as he followed her on her travels, from town to town, as she protected her charge. She was paid well; she did her job just as well. But she didn't see him as he stalked her, watched her with dark eyes, ever ready to take down this new enemy.

She didn't see him, but she knew she was being watched.

[There'll be more for them later. It hasn't been mentioned, but their names are Nexal Ebonleaf, and Vilya Sorrowleaf. They're elves, if you couldn't tell by the fanciful names. They're also not my characters; they're from one of the D&D supplement books, Complete Warrior.]

This was written for LJ's 31_days community. Today's theme was "Homeland." That yielded this.

I needed a tissue afterwards, as did Ai.

Quick character intro:

Niko - a swashbuckler/rogue/scarlet corsair, captain of the Sea Spirit [though not at the time of the following stories]. He is an Aventi, basically an aquatic human. Has fins, can breathe water and air, and swims like a fish. He's very very sneaky, loose on his morals, and very charismatic. He's a little like Jack Sparrow, but without the crazy. He fights with two cutlasses and is a definite pirate. In D&D terms, he's chaotic neutral.

Kanoa - a barbarian/scout, first mate on the Sea Spirit [though not at the time of the following stories]. He is a Darfellan, an aquatic race that looks like a humanoid orca whale, with black and white patterned skin. He can hold his breathe for over twelve minutes, has an incredible swim speed, and fights with a large harpoon. He's young but very large, and very shy, and very quiet. He's naive, and can be taken advantage of - which Niko doesn't hesitate to use. He's also chaotic neutral.

Oh and also, for reference's sake:
Noranti - a wizard/sea witch/stormcaster. She's old and crazy, but stronger and more intelligent that one would think by looking at her. Plays absentminded and cranky old woman incredibly well, leaving people underestimating the strength of her magic. She looks on Niko and Kanoa as additonal grandsons. She's human, sharp-eyed and tongued, has always loved the sea, widow of a sailor, mother and grandmother of... many. Chaotic Neutral.

Got that? Okay. Have fun.

Two more to go.

*dusts off*

Been a long time, I know. I haven't finished coloring that last sketch - mostly because I took ages to go about inking it, and then got a new computer and transferred files etc, etc. Anyway, the inked version isn't on this computer yet so it must be rescanned.

However, I have done some more writing. Those of you who remember Mykel and Rion? If you didn't know, there were... interesting circumstances revolving around them conceiving the princes of Maradesh. But I've written several drabbles about them, Sadiq, the elder red-haired, blue-green eyed older brother. He's 18, has Rion's hair, skin, temperament and general looks. That is to say charisma out the wazoo. He has the red dragon blood heritage as well, and thus can give up arcane spells in lieu of using a firey breath weapon. He also has a thing for blood. >_>; He has Mykel's eyes, wisdom [though he hardly exercises his common sense] and divine spellcasting abilities. He's a sorcerer, like Rion, but also a favored soul, which is like a cleric, except he doesn't have to prepare spells ahead of time. He casts both arcane and divine spells and is the heir to the Maradeshi throne.

His brother, Tahir, is 2 1/2 years younger, currently 15. He's tall and skinny, with Mykel's hair, and Rion's eyes, both blue-black as night. He's a rogue like his Uncle Sylvain [Rion's brother] and has his intelligence. He looks far more like Mykel than Rion, and once he fills out, will have Mykel's build. Tahir's also an assassin, and had learned shadow stealth from Mykel. His sneak attack is ridiculous. He has always worshipped his older brother [who was a little too oblivious to notice for years] and will do just about anything for him.

They have been nicknamed the Sadist and the Terror by the palace servants. Each brother individually is frightening enough. Together, they scare the bejesus out of most of Maradesh. All of Maradesh when joined by their cousin Lyra, Syl's daughter with Hana, the psion.

Just a little background there for ya.

Here's the first story about them. They're still babies in this one, ranging from Tahir just being born to being about two. Two more drabbles will follow.

Okay what the hell. I was just in the middle of checking email and junk and Rion suddenly stepped in and took over my brain. There was no warning, no trigger nothing.

And this is the result. Short, and... well. Not what you'd really expect from Rion.
