Sigh.
When cases went slow, Greg's job was not exactly thrilling. Especially if everything went slow at once. He poked at a flask. He dripped liquid into it with an eyedropper. He sighed.
"'Ey, Greggo! Busy?"
"Enormously," Greg mumbled, and then blinked at the voice, looking up.
Nick was leaning against the door, an amused smile on his face. "Yeah sure, you look like you can't handle anything else; I'm just gonna.." He turned, still smiling, as if he were walking out.
"Hey hey! Nooo, I was kidding, man, whaddya got for me?" Greg jumped up, almost knocking over the flask.
Nick waved a file, but his eyes were on the flask, which had a popsicle stick with a piece of string tied around it balanced across the top. "Greg... the hell are you doin'?"
Greg's expression was nothing if not sheepish. "Rcccndy," he mumbled.
"...What?"
"Rock candy," came the answer. "Look I wasn't going to eat it or anything but it's easy to make and I was waiting for... Just gimme the file would you?"
Nick managed to keep from laughing and slid next to Greg handing him the folder. "Nothin' special. DNA check. Oh and see if you can figure out what the green stuff is on the cloth sample there."
Greg took the capped swab in gloved fingers. "Ooooh, is this from the Jane Doe prostitute? Didn't I already run hers?"
"Yeah, but somethin' didn't add up. Plus you ran an oral swab before."
"And this is?" Greg opened the cap.
"Your favorite, of course. Anal swab."
"Gold mine."
"You know it."
Greg grinned over his shoulder at Nick. "So you... um... busy?"
"Nah I can stick around a bit. You know how interested I am in your anal swabs, Greggo." Nick pulled up a chair the expression on his face... almost suggestive.
Greg immediately set to work, conscious of Nick watching. Business first. Pleasure later.
