It was mostly instinct. A reflexive action at the culmination of degradation, hurt, loss, and betrayal. Male drow were subjugated, that was nothing new. Sometimes some were favored, and sometimes that was a good thing. Sometimes that male got special privileges only dreamed of by others. And sometimes that favoritism just made a bad situation worse.
Shar’s matron’s interest in him had gotten to be too much. Despite the fact he was a monk, despite the fact he’d taken vows he had to uphold to remain faithful, she used him, to the point where he could no longer follow his faith. Made him break his vows. Or rather, broke them for him.
So it was instinct anger and retribution that had him lashing out, had her left in a crushed, bleeding, dying heap at his feet, while he sensibly took everything he needed to leave the Underdark and never return.
His vows weren’t the only thing broken anymore. So was his matron’s hold on him, as well as all of the Underdark.
